Maoists picket district administration offices across Nepal
Kathmandu, Nov 4 : Maoist cadres today picketed district administration offices across the country blocking office gates to prevent employees from entering inside as part of their protest programmes.
According to local news media, six police personnel and about a dozen Maoist cadres were injured when the former rebel parties workers clashed with security personnel in Sunsari district in eastern Nepal.
The Maoists said their protest would continue tomorrow. The Maoists cadres gathered at the district administration offices of Kathmandu valley and amused themselves with dances and songs, Nepalnews said.
They have been demanding the correction of the president Ram Baran Yadav's move not to implement their decision to sack then Army Chief General Rookmanguad Katawal, who retired two months ago.
Maoists had sacked Katawal and appointed Kul Bahadur Khadka as Army Chief. But the Maoist government's decision to sack the General and appoint an Army Chief of their choice was not implemented by President Dr Yadav at the request of 18 political parties represented in the parliament including the Maoists coalition partners.
However, Katawal has already retired completing his term in officer and General Chhatraman Singh Gurung has been appointed as the new army chief. Major political parties of the present coalition have been saying that the president's move was constitutional and Maoists can present motion of impeachment in the parliament against the president if they wish so.
