PCPA declares non-cooperation movement, indefinite blockade

Midnapore, Nov 4 : The People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) has declared to start a non-cooperation movement against the state government and decided not to pay any taxes or rent to the government offices.

PCPA convenor Asit Mahato told UNI today, ''All residents of the Jungle Mahal areas have been advised not to pay any tax or rent to the government offices anymore. If they pay rent or tax, they will be boycotted by the PCPA henceforth.'' The members of the outfit also put up indefinite blockade throughout the Jungle Mahal areas of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia districts since this morning.

Mahato also declared that the PCPA will demonstrate in front of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's convoy when the CM comes to Midnapore to attend a high level conference on development and law and order situation in the area on November 7 and 8.

''We will organise a demonstration with the students of Jungle Mahal areas, whose schools buildings are still being occupied by the combined security forces. Most of the secondary and higher secondary schools are still occupied by the combined forces and that is why the students are being deprived of their classes,'' he pointed out.

''This cannot go on indefinitely. We have given lot of time to the government for constructing accommodation for the forces. Now the students and their guardians have decided to hit the roads and that too in front of the Chief Minister himself,'' Mahato asserted.

Asked about the proposed package of Rs 1600 crore that will be announced by the Chief Minister in the meeting at the circuit house here for undertaking developmental activities in the Jungle Mahal areas, Mahato said the ''money will be used mainly for buying arms and ammunition for the CPI(M) cadres in the area fighting against innocent tribals.'' ''What has the state government done for development in the tribal areas in the past 32 years? Now they are making tall promises ahead of the 2011 Assembly elections in a bid to win over the tribals. But the tribals do not believe them anymore. The entire money will be misused for buying arms for the CPI(M) cadres in the area,'' Mahato alleged.
