SVU's Telugu Department golden jubilee gala from Nov 12
Tirupati, Nov 4 : The golden jubilee celebrations of the Telugu department in Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) is scheduled to be held at its varsity campus here from November 12 to 14.
Addressing a press conference, the Telugu department head Damodhar Reddy said MA in Telugu was started in SVU in 1959 and this year marks the completion of 50 years of establishment of the department. The golden Jubilee celebrations will be inaugurated by varsity vice-Chancellor Prof Prabhakar Rao.
''The celebrations are being conducted without any involvement of politicians. Various prominent Telugu scholars would participate in the event,'' he said.
During the three-day event, various programmes related to 'sahityam' and 'sadassu' on Telugu bhasha, ancient 'sahityam' and on modern 'sahityam' would be conducted.
''Nearly 26 Acharyulu, who worked in the Telugu department but were transferred to various other varsities during the 50-year tenure of the department, would be felicitated. Rich tributes will be paid to the 12 Acharyulu, who have passsed away and the remaining 14 would be felicitated by professors present at the event,'' he said Prominent Telugu scholars would share their experiences with the younger generation during the celebrations, he added.
''347 students have received their Ph.D degrees, 264 students have received their M.Phil and a total of 82 books have been published since the establishment of the department in SVU,'' he said.
Prof Peetasri of the Telugu department was present at the meeting among others.
