India, Vietnam hold joint Hydrography meeting to boost maritime cooperation in Dehradun
Dehradun, June 13
India and Vietnam held the second Joint Working Group meeting on hydrographic cooperation in Dehradun from June 10 to 12, aimed at strengthening maritime ties and capacity building between the two countries.
Rear Admiral Nguyen Thien Quan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Vietnam People's Navy, and Rear Admiral Peush Pawsey, Joint Chief Hydrographer, co-chaired the meeting at the National Hydrographic Office.
In a post on X, the official account of the Embassy of India in Vietnam shared, "Rear Admiral Nguyen Thien Quan, Deputy Chief of Staff, VPN and Rear Admiral Peush Pawsey, Joint Chief Hydrographer co-chaired the 2nd India-Vietnam Joint Working Group on Hydrographic Cooperation at the National Hydrographic Office, Dehradun from 10-12 June 2026."
The Indian embassy said both sides are committed to enhancing maritime cooperation under the India-Vietnam Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
"We are committed to strengthening maritime cooperation and advancing the India-Vietnam Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership through deeper collaboration in hydrography and capacity building," the post read.

Hope this cooperation includes training for our fishermen too. Many times they face issues in maritime zones due to lack of proper charts. Good step, but ground-level benefits need to reach coastal communities.
Excellent strategic move! India's Act East policy is showing real results. Vietnam is a key partner in ASEAN and this hydrography collaboration will help both navies. Also benefits trade routes in the Indo-Pacific.
Important but we should also focus on our own coastal mapping. Gujarat and Maharashtra coastlines still have outdated charts. Hope this JWG leads to better data sharing and modernisation of our hydrographic capabilities.
Great to see two democracies working together on maritime security. The South China Sea is a global waterway and such cooperation ensures freedom of navigation. India is emerging as a reliable security partner in the region.
Good initiative but I wish the government would share more details about what was actually discussed and agreed upon. Transparency in such strategic partnerships is important for public understanding and trust.
