Exports dip for 12th consecutive month; fall 13.8 pc in Sep
New Delhi, Nov 3 : Shrinking for the 12th straight month, the country's exports fell by 13.8 per cent to 13.61 billion dollars in September 2009 as compared to 15.78 billion dollars in the same month last year, government data showed here today.
The imports also fell by 31.3 per cent to 21.38 billion dollars in September 2009 from 31.14 billion dollars in year-ago perio, data showed.
The cumulative value of exports for April-September 2009 stood at 77.85 billion dollars whereas it was 108.91 billion dollars in the year-ago period, a negative growth of 28.5 per cent.
For the first six months of the current fiscal, cumulative value of imports dipped by 32.7 per cent to 124.58 billion dollars from 185.01 billion dollars in the year-ago period.
Oil imports declined by 33.5 per cent in September 2009 at 6.34 billion dollars as against 9.54 billion dollars imports reported in the same month last year, and during April-September 2009, these fell by 45 per cent to 34.81 billion dollars from 63.28 billion dollars in the corresponding period last year.
Non-oil imports during September 2009 stood at 15.03 billion dollars as against 21.59 billion dollars in September 2008, a fall of 30.4 per cent. During April-September 2009, non-oil imports fell by 26.2 per cent to 89.77 billion dollars from 121.72 billion dollars in year-ago period.
During the H1FY10, the trade deficit stood at 46.73 billion dollars as against 76.09 billion dollars in the same period previous year.
