Andhra Pradesh CM launches pension scheme for women
Chevella, Andhra Pradesh, Nov 1 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah today formally launched the 'Dr YSR Abhaya Hastham,' Pension-cum-Insurance Scheme for women members of the Self Help Groups (SHGs) at a function here in Ranga Reddy district.
Launching the scheme on the state formation day, the Chief Minister said the scheme opened a golden chapter today for elderly women who would get a montly pension between Rs 500 to Rs 2500 after attaining the age of 60 years.
This was for the first time such a massive social security scheme providing pension, insurance and personal accident coverage for largest number of women was launched in the country by the Andhra Pradesh government with a view to uplift the women in the state, he claimed.
He said already 35 lakh members enrolled under the scheme had paid their annual contribution of Rs 365 each to the Mandal Samakhyas, and an equal contribution by the state government had been transferred to the LIC, the lead fund manager of the scheme.
The Chief Minister distributed bonds and certificates to the women members who attained 60 years and pension sanction letters to them.
Earlier, the Chief Minister unveilled the statue of late Chief Minister Dr Rajasekhara Reddy.
Andhra Pradesh Rural Development Minister V Vasanth Kumar said of the 35 lakh enrolled members, 4.50 lakh had already crossed 60 years and would start getting their pensions from November itself.
