Panic in Orissa school after 2 swine flu cases
Bhubaneswar, Nov 1 : Panic gripped a residential girls' school in Orissa's Sundergarh district after two students tested positive for swine flu.
Swab samples of two students of the Jampali Government Girls High School, sent to the regional medical research centre, turned out to be positive, a state health department official said.
There are about 387 students in the school. More than 200 of them are undergoing treatment for fever since Thursday.
Now panic has gripped the area after two students turned out positive for the disease. A medical team has been sent to the school and more than 50 students and 20 members of the staff have been quarantined on suspicion of infection.
"We are trying to contain the contamination. Fortunately we don't have complication as yet," said B.K. Kindo, the district chief medical officer.
The state health department has also rushed a four member team to the district. The health department is concerned that some of the girls returned to their homes after they complained of fever Saturday.
Officials are trying to contact these students and determine if they have been infected.
