BJP MLA Sangeet Som surrenders

Lucknow, Sept 21 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Sangeet Som, who has been charged for circulating a fake video online that fueled Muzaffarnagar riots, surrended on Saturday after the Uttar Pradesh Police served him an arrest warrant.

Meanwhile, BJP president Rajnath Singh was made to cancel his visit to Muzaffarnagar on Saturday due to security reasons.

BJP MLA Suresh Rana was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday for inciting the Hindu-Muslim tension in Muzaffarnagar that left about 48 people dead.

Rana is accused of making inflammatory speeches, that allegedly triggered the communal riots in the state.

Rana is the first one to be arrested in the case, after the arrest warrants were issued against 16 political leaders three days ago.

This comes in even as senior BJP leader Uma Bharti on Wednesday warned of 'more tension' in north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in case leaders from her party are arrested in connection with the riots that tore through Muzaffarnagar earlier this month.
