Delhi High Court Advocates Welfare Trust launches golf cart service for senior, aged and needy lawyers
New Delhi, July 30
The Delhi High Court Advocates Welfare Trust on Thursday launched a golf cart service within the Delhi High Court premises to facilitate the movement of senior, aged and needy members of the Bar.
The golf carts were formally flagged off by Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya in the presence of Justice Amit Sharma. The flag-off ceremony was held at 10:15 AM from the podium of Chamber Block-III in the Delhi High Court complex.
The initiative has been undertaken pursuant to a unanimous resolution passed in a meeting of the Delhi High Court Advocates Welfare Trust. Under the resolution, the Trust purchased two golf carts to provide transport assistance within the court complex for advocates who are senior citizens, aged, or otherwise in need of mobility support.
According to the Delhi High Court Advocates Welfare Trust, the service aims to make movement across the expansive court premises more convenient and accessible for members of the Bar facing mobility challenges.
The event was attended by members of the Bar and office-bearers of the Trust, including Secretary Abhilash Mathur and Trustee Senior Advocate Amit Chadha.

As an advocate from the US who often visits Indian courts, I find this initiative very thoughtful. In many Western courts, similar services exist pro bono. India is catching up, and it's heartening to see the Trust being proactive. Great job!
Must say, this is a welcome change. But honestly, the parking situation at Delhi HC is chaos—many seniors have to walk miles from the car park. Why not focus on that too? Still, one step at a time, I guess. 🙏

I'm an Australian lawyer who once worked on a case at Delhi HC. The sheer size of the complex was overwhelming—my elderly client had to use a wheelchair and it was exhausting. This is a long-overdue, compassionate move. Kudos to the Trust and the Chief Justice!
Good idea but execution matters. Will these carts be available throughout the day? Some of our seniors need to go to different blocks for hearings—will there be a schedule? I hope it's not a one-time photo-op. Let's see. 🤔
