Telangana leaders arrested for road blockade

Hyderabad, Mar 21 : Traffic was thrown out of gear on the Hyderabad-Bangalore national Highway as leaders of the Telangana Joint Action committee (TJAC), TRS, BJP and CPI staged road blockades to intensify their stir for a separate Telangana state. The blockade was part of 11-hours Sadak bandh which ended at around 1900 hours today while several vehicles including police vehicles, lorries and buses were damaged by the agitators in Mahanubnagar district.

Police arrested hundreds of agitators including MLAs, MLACs from TRS, BJP and CPI parties at toll plaza near Alampur, Shadnagar and Kothakota in Mahabubnagar district and Shamshabad in Telangana region.

As part of the bandh call given by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC), pro-Telangana activists stalled traffic by squatting on the NH7 connecting 7 states to Telangana region while APSRTC authorities has diverted their bus routes proceeding to Rayalaseema region.

Tension prevailed at few places including Alampur as Telangana leaders resisted police attempts to arrest them. The protest caused huge traffic jams on the city outskirts.
