"Long back I had written a letter to NDA (National Democratic Alliance) chairman that I am going to support the alliance because almost 70-75% of the people of the country want Modi ji to become the Prime Minister of India," Yeddyurappa told CNN-IBN.
"There is no other alternative leadership. So in the interest of the country we should take some decision and sacrifice other things. Together we will work in the interest of the people and we want Modi to become the PM," he said.
Yeddyurappa said he is trying to convince his KJP MLAs, who are against the merger.
"I am trying my level best to convince all our 6 MLA's. Together the BJP-KJP alliance will work for the people," he told the news channel.
Yeddyurappa on Thursday said his party will merge with the BJP.
He said both the parties will fight the 2014 Lok Sabha polls together.
Yeddyurappa said all formalities in connection to the merger will be completed within three or four days.
In December 2012, he had formed the KJP after quitting the BJP.
