Jiwanjot becomes fifth bastman to hit double ton in Ranji debut
Stylish Punjab opener Jiwanjot Singh Chouhan today earned the distinction of becoming the fifth Indian batsman to score double century in his debut in the National Cricket Championship for Ranji Trophy.
Batting against Hyderabad, Jiwanjot compiled a powerful 213 as Punjab made 565 for 6 in 150 overs against the visitors' first innings total of 258.
According to Rakesh Sanghi, Statistician of Punjab Cricket Association, Jiwanjot scored a double hundred for Punjab after a gap of eight years.
Earlier, all-rounder Reetinder Sodhi had scored unbeaten 251 against Maharashtara at Mohali in December 2004.
The four others who scored double ton on this maiden appearances are Amol Mazumdar of Mumbai, Gundappa Vishwanath of Mysore, Anshuan Panday of Madhya Pradesh and Manprit Juneja of Gujrat.
The list of the batsmen who made double century in a debut match of Ranji Trophy are: 260 by Amol Mazumdar of Mumbai vs Haryana at Faridabad, 1993-94.
