Swiss envoy calls on Punjab assembly Speaker

Swiss Ambassador Linus Von Castemur today called on Punjab assembly Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal here and stressed the need for improving bilateral relations between India and Switzerland.

During the hour long meeting with Mr Atwal, Dr Linus Kang said that he was quite impressed with the development of Punjab and surprised to know that Punjab was contributing more than 50 per cent foodgrains in the Central kitty, having just 1.6 per cent area of the country.

He said that Switzerland was desirous of strengthening ties with India in the field of trade, industry, and agriculture and especially in the education sector.

He said that India, the biggest democracy of the world was a fountainhead of true democratic set up and healthy practices.

He also visited the Punjab Vidhan Sabha hall.

During the discussion, Mr Atwal appealed Mr Lunis to support India for the permanent seat in the Security Council of United Nations as India was the largest democracy in the world and playing a key role in maintaining world peace and other important affairs.

He also told the delegation about the development of Infrastructure in the state and invited the Swiss investors to invest in the state.

Earlier, Mr Atwal welcomed the delegation and hounred them with a Phulkari and photo of Punjab Vidhan Sabha. Mr Atwal also briefly outlined about the Legislative procedures and practices of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
