Panaji, May 3 : The ongoing investigation into illegal mining scam at Goa's sports city ground has revealed that laterite stones were extracted from more than 10 pits dug on the ground.

Each pit, measuring 2,500 sq mtrs was found during field investigation by the Goa police and state mines and geology officials.

"Laterite stone were illegally extracted from this land for quite some time. We have informed about the matter to the Sports Ministry," Assistant Director, Mines, Raju Gawas told reporters.

The Mines department will now inspect the land using Global Positioning System for more details of the illegal activity.

Police had seized 10 trucks which transported the illegal materials during a raid earlier this week.

The 10 lakh sq mtrs sports ground located 30 kms from here at Dhargalim village was acquired for hosting National Games 2014 and Portuguese Commonwealth Games in 2013.
