Haryana achieves 98.7 pc birth registration

Chandigarh, Mar 12 : As many as 98.7 per cent of the total expected births in Haryana were registered during 2012 as a result of the effective steps taken by the state government in this direction.

The registration of births is expected to be 100 per cent in next few years.

Stating this here today, a spokesman for Health Department said that in 2012, over 5.63 lakh births and 1.60 lakh deaths were registered in the state.

He said that while the facility of registration of births had been provided to the common man at Primary Health Centres, the shortcomings in the system had been removed by way of regular monitoring at the state level.

He said that as per the arrangements made by the department, births in rural areas were registered at Primary Health Centres through Anganwadis workers and health workers.

"Therefore, they need not go anywhere to get the birth of their children registered. On getting birth registered through health worker, the birth certificate is issued free of cost," he said.
