Siliguri, Feb 4 : An army jawan and four others were arrested for smuggling about one quintal of contraband ganja worth Rs 1 crore in clandestine market, police said today.
Bhaktinagar police also seized an unlicenced 9 mm revolver, two live cartridges and two vehicles used for transporting the narcotics.
Police said army jawan Mani Bhusan Panday, posted at Nasik, ex-armyman Lalan Yadav, driver Raju Das, Ashutosh Ojha and Bikrant Khan, all the residents of Uttar Pradesh, were arrested with contraband goods.
They were arrested from a hotel at Sevok Road last night after they drove from Coochbehar in two vehicles.
Their plan was to export the goods to New Delhi, police added.
All the five were produced before a local court in Jalpaiguri, which remanded them to police custody.
