Assam: 214 militants killed in past 3 years

As many as 214 militants of different militant groups were killed in Assam in the past three years during counter-insurgency operations, officials said.

Assam Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) (Law and Order) A K Raut said during 2010 to 2012, at least 214 militants were killed, 16 injured and 3222 were captured during counter-insurgency operations in Assam.

"In the period, 31 security personnel, 117 civilians were killed in 790 insurgent incidents," the Assam ADGP said.

"In 2010, 215 extremists were killed in counter-insurgency operations, while 46 were killed in 2011 and 53 in 2012," Raut said.

During the period, security forces recovered 1247 arms, 18764 rounds of ammunition, 300 IEDs, bomb and 407 hand grenades from militants.

"In 2010, security forces recovered 427 arms, 101 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and 134 grenades from militants, while 377 arms, 89 IEDs and 110 grenades were recovered in 2011 and 443 arms, 110 IEDs, bomb and 163 grenades were recovered in 2012," Raut said.

Security forces also recovered Rs 12,00,98,314 in cash from militants during the period.
