Water from a breached canal of the Badiyanala dam entered several homes in Dhanoriya village in Madhya Pradesh, damaging personal belongings.
Shivering villagers looked for safer places after last night's mishap. Tribesmen Babulal, Pooran and Vijay Dhakad said knee-deep water had inundated a large part of the village while the level was one foot in their homes. The affected people returned to their dwellings after the water receded at 0900 hrs today.
"Soon after we learnt of the matter, repair work began on the canal in the wee hours. A compensation proposal will be sent after assessing the loss caused to the affected families," Irrigation Department Sub-Divisional Officer N K Rajoriya said.
