Punjabi University wins overall Rowing Championship

Punjabi University Patiala won the All India Inter University Rowing Championship which concluded at Sukhna Lake here today.

In men section Punjabi University team has won the first position by securing 18 points, while Panjab University Chandigarh remains at second place with 7 points and Kurukshetra University got 6 points, grabs the third spot.

Besides that in women section, Kerala University has won first position by 18 points, followed by Punjabi University with 9 points and Madras University has achieved the third place with 6 points.

Punjabi University has won the overall Championship with total 27 points, whereas Kerala University was the second Runners-up with 18 points and Panjab University Chandigarh got third position with 7 points.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Punjab Food and Civil Supply Minister Adaish Partap Singh Kairon said that the Sukhna Lake has been established as a world level tourism destination and has also earned a great name as a rowing centre.

Mr Kairon has also given away the prizes to the winners.

The closing ceremony was presided over by Punjabi University Vice Chancellor Jaspal Singh.

The championship was conducted under the chairmanship of sports director Raj Kumar Sharma.

Dr Sharma welcomed all the teams, their coach, managers and officials and describes a brief note on the sports achievements of Punjabi University, Patiala.
