Uproar in Odisha Assly over farmers issue,cut in Rly budget for state
The Odisha Assembly today witnessed uproarious scenes after both opposition Congress and treasury bench members trooped into the well, raised slogans and disrupted the business of the House forcing Speaker P K Amat to adjourn it twice till 1500 hrs.
As soon as the question hour was over, the Congress members first rushed to the well and raised slogans against the government's 'anti-farmer' policy.
They condemned the arrest of farmers who staged a protest demonstration before Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's residence here yesterday.
The agitated Congress members started thumping the Speaker's table as well as the reporters' table to lodge their protest.
Soon the treasury bench members also trooped into the well to counter the opposition and shouted slogan against the UPA government for curtailing the Railway budgetary allocation for the state.
Mr Pradip Maharathy (BJD) and his party colleague Rajendra Das were seen throwing papers into the well.The House witnessed uproarious scenes with both Congress and the BJD members accusing each other and nothing was audible in the din.
The treasury bench members alleged that the Congress led UPA government was showing step motherly attitide towards the state and reduced Rs.288 crore from the original Railway budget earmarked for the state in three phases.
The chaotic situation prevailed for almost five minutes in the well with slogan and counter slogan by the opposition and treasury benches.
Sensing the mood, the Speaker adjourned the House at 1135 hours to till 1230 hours.
As the House reassembled after the first adjournment at 1230 hours,both the treasury bench and the opposition Congress members again occupied the well and raised slogan and counter slogan.
Finding it difficult to run the business, the Speaker adjourned the House till 1500 hours without transacting any business.
