Pranab Mukherjee cancels programmes; to attend Gujral's funeral
President Pranab Mukherjee has cancelled his programmes here because of the passing away of former Prime Minister I K Gujral, and would return to New Delhi tomorrow to attend the funeral.
Sources said the President would cut short his visit here and would leave for the national capital tomorrow morning.
Mr Mukherjee, who arrived here tonight from Chennai, was scheduled to attend two programmes in the city.
At the first event, he was supposed to be present at the concluding ceremony of the commemoration of the Sesquicentennial Celebrations of Calcutta High Court at Netaji Indoor Stadium.
The programme is being jointly organised by the Bar Council, Bar Library and Incorporated Law Society of the High Court.
The President was also supposed to attend the Centenary Celebration of National Test House (NTH) at the Town Hall.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called on the President at the Raj Bhavan here tonight.
The meeting between the two, described as a courtesy call, lasted for about half an hour.
