Sikkim: IAF plane crashes; pilot injured
A Jaguar fighter plane of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed at a forest near Lik area in North Sikkim on Friday, said reports. The pilot was seriously injured.
The wreckage of the plane caught fire after the crash that took place at around 1:15 PM, an official said.
Speaking to reporters, Colonel Gurung of 27 Mountain Division stationed in North Sikkim said Flight Lieutenant Yogesh Yadav suffered critical injuries due to the crash.
The pilot was rescued by locals from the crash site.
Gurung said the locals took him to a school at Lik.
He said the Army and IAF were attempting to land a helicopter on the school ground to take Yadav to Siliguri city in West Bengal for treatment.
The fighter plane had taken off from West Bengal's Bagdogra airport.
The mishap occurred when it was on routine sortee of the border areas.
