Anna Hazare slams government's Lokpal Bill
Veteran social activist Anna Hazare has rejected the Rajya Sabha's Select Committee report on the Lokpal Bill that was tabled in the Upper House on Friday, calling it a political stunt, reports said.
"First, there should be a discussion on my three demands. Citizens' charter, to make all Lokpal offices functional and to bring the Prime Minister and all the four - Class I, II, III and IV employees under the Jan Lokpal," Anna was quoted as saying.
The report was tabled by Committee member Shantaram Naik amid repeated disruptions on the second day of the Winter Session of the Parliament.
Union Minister of State in PMO V Narayanasamy reportedly said the government will try to pass the Lokpal Bill in the Winter Session itself.
Rajya Sabha Select Committee chief on Lokpal bill Satyavrat Chaturvedi told media: "Report on Lokpal Bill was submitted to Rajya Sabha today. It is a great achievement for us."
The Select Committee's report on the Lokpal Bill recommends de-linking the creation of state Lokayuktas from the Lokpal Bill, bringing the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) under its purview except on matters relating to internal and external security, atomic energy, international relations and public order, said CNN-IBN quoting sources.
The Bill will go to the Lok Sabha for approval, once it is passed in the Rajya Sabha.
The Lokpal Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha during the Winter Session of the Parliament last year.
It got stuck in the Rajya Sabha and was later referred to the Upper House select committee during the Budget Session this year in order to break the parliamentary logjam over the matter.
