The list of candidates for upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections announced by the Congress high command last night has evoked vociferous protests from the rank and file of party unit in the state.
According to the reports reaching here, several presidents of local Congress bodies in various cities including Anand, Petlad, Junagadh, Surendranagar and Mangrol have either tendered their resignations or threatened to do so if the candidate of their preference is not fielded for their respective constituencies.
In Mangrol in south Gujarat, angry Congress workers expressed their resentment against Union Minister Tushar Chaudhary, whose brother Tejas is understood to have got the ticket for Mangrol seat.
In Ahmedabad, Congress spokesperson Jayantilal Parmar and Girish Parmar have threatened to tender their resignations against the party's selection of sitting MLA Shailesh Parmar for Danilimda seat of Ahmedabad.
More trouble is expected tomorrow when the candidates would start filing their nominations.
Senior Congress leaders of Gujarat were not available for comment on the trouble brewing in the party.
