FDI to benefit farmers, consumers: Sharad Pawar
Defending the UPA's move to allow FDI in multi-brand retail, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today said the decision would benefit farmers and the consumers in the country.
The FDI would also not harm the interests of the small traders and shopkeepers as it would be allowed only in big cities with a population of over ten lakh, he said while talking to reporters after inaugurating the National Conference on "Krishi Vigyan Kendras' in the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) here.
Regarding the announcement of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) on wheat, he said his ministry had sent a report on the matter and the MSP was likely to be announced within a week.
He said the farmers would get remunerative price on their produce.
