The media fraternity in Goa will observe the National Press Day on November 16 with 'Freedom of the Media' as the theme of the year, it was announced here today.
The day has been observed every year to coincide with the foundation day of the Press Council of India (PCI).
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will be the chief guest, while MLA and chairman of Kala Academy and journalist, Vishnu Wagh, will be the keynote speaker.
Senior journalists Pramod Prabhugaonkar (Goa Doot), Prashant Vernekar (Navprabhat), Leena Pednekar (Tarun Bharat), Arvind Dhuri (Gomantak) and Bosco D'Souza Eremita (Herald) will be felicitated on the occasion for their dedicated service in the field of journalism.
The Department of Information and Publicity in collaboration with the Goa Editors' Guild and the Goa Union of Journalists and Photo Journalists Association has organised the event.
The main function will be followed by a panel discussion on the topic 'Freedom of the media: Is media really free?'
