Major fire in Madhya Pradesh capital on Diwali night
Fire fighters in the Madhya Pradesh capital attended several calls last night and early today about fire-related incidents from across the city as the denizens celebrated Diwali bursting crackers, police said.
A major fire broke out in four godowns storing electronic goods -- including computer, television and refrigerator -- in Jahangirabad area during which goods worth about Rs six crore were destroyed. Initially, fire started in one godown but soon engulfed three other godowns in the locality.
Four fire tenders were pressed into service to control the inferno but later more than 24 fire tenders were deployed. The blaze was finally controlled in over three hours.
A major mishap was averted as further delay in controlling the fire could have caused it to spread in nearby slums. The cause behind the fire was yet to be ascertained. No loss of life was reported during the incident.
Likewise, a cloth factory caught fire from a cracker in Bairagarh area at around 0400 hrs. The fire caused a loss of nearly Rs 11 lakh to the businessman. Similarly, belongings of three students were gutted in a fire at a private hostel in MP Nagar area.
Other minor incidents of fire were reported in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior. Two children sustained burn injuries while exploding crackers in Jabalpur last night and were admitted to the District Hospital.
