The District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) of Wokha district has resolved to put a total ban on the sale of migratory birds, especially the Amur Falcon, with immediate effect.
According to official sources today, a DPDB meeting yesterday deliberated on trading and selling of migratory birds throughout Wokha district and the Board members felt the need to put a ban on it and also to spread the awareness of preserving the species.
During the meeting, Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) of Sungro Mr Shaying Sheu spoke about the route of migratory birds, its benefit in killing of caterpillars and added it may not be healthy to consume the birds.
The chairperson of the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) District Headquarter Sosutla requested all the officers, village councils and NGOs to cooperate in actual cause of preserving wildlife and practical success of banning and selling of any migratory birds.
