Tewari urges news channels to be impartial
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari today said the government would keep a watch on those news channels which were airing one-sided news items and would take action against them.
Mr Tewari stated this after he was felicitated by the district Congress following his induction in the Union Cabinet.
The Minister said he was in favour of free and independent media but some news channels which indulged in broadcasting one-sided news items. That was not a healthy trend, he added.
Mr Tewari said media should be impartial and they should lend voice to every section of the society in their programmes.
He called upon the Congressmen in Punjab to be united ahead of Lok Sabha elections.
"We can win the elections only if we are united. No one can defeat the Congress. Whenever the Congress loses, it is because of infighting in the party", he added.
