Thirty two panchayti raj representatives (PRI)s including sarpanch and sammittee members belonging to Kanas block under the Satyabadi assembly constituency today petitioned to Puri sub-collector urging him to call for a meeting to move no-confidence motion against chairperson Manaswiny Baliarsingh.

The block has 44 members with equal number of sarpanchas and sammittee members. This apart the local legislator and the parliament member are two other members.

This move gets political significance as Manaswiny is the wife of Umakanta Samantray who won the assembly polls defeating the BJD official nominee Ramaranjan Baliarsingh. Mr Samantray a BJD leader jumped into fray as an independent after he was denied the party ticket. Sources said all the defeated candidates including BJD leader Ramaranjan Baliarsingh, Congress rebel Omprakas Mishra and Congress candidate Prasad Harichandan had put their weight to bring the motion to dislodge the wife of Uma Samantray from the block leadership. All 32 members demanding the meeting to move the no-confidence motion were present in the sub-collectors office today. Sub-collector Madhusudan Dash received the notice and said he would do the needful as per the law.
