Assam Rifles marks 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' in Manipur with veteran welfare, Tiranga rally, youth outreach

Assam Rifles commemorated the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas across Manipur with a series of veteran welfare initiatives, patriotic rallies and youth outreach programmes in Churachandpur, Chandel and Tengnoupal districts, honouring the sacrifices of the Kargil War heroes while inspiring young people to serve the nation.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to commemorate India's victory in the 1999 Kargil War and to pay tribute to the courage, valour and supreme sacrifice of the soldiers who defended the country's frontiers under extremely challenging high-altitude conditions.
A Defence Spokesman said on Sunday that the commemorative programmes were aimed at preserving military traditions, strengthening veteran welfare and encouraging the youth to pursue careers in the Armed Forces.
As part of the observance, Assam Rifles organised a career guidance and leadership session at VK Tawna Senior School in Churachandpur district on July 25.
The interactive programme, attended by 162 students, introduced them to various career opportunities in the Indian Armed Forces, including different entry schemes, eligibility criteria, selection procedures and military training academies.
A domain expert in Quality Management addressed the students on the importance of leadership, discipline and professional ethics while also providing guidance on preparing for competitive examinations.
The session encouraged students to explore career opportunities in the defence services and highlighted the values of dedication, integrity and national service.
On Saturday, commemorative programmes were organised at Modi village in Chandel district and Khudengthabi village in Tengnoupal district as part of the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations.
At Modi village, the event began with the hoisting of the National Flag followed by an impressive Pipe Band display.
The programme brought together 288 members of the veteran community, including 240 ex-servicemen, three Veer Naris and 45 widows, along with Assam Rifles personnel.
Special felicitations were presented to the families of fallen soldiers in recognition of their courage, resilience and invaluable contribution to the nation.
As part of a veteran welfare initiative, Assam Rifles also extended assistance to a beneficiary by providing a water pump and pipeline installation to address domestic water supply issues at her residence.
The event concluded with a friendly football match between ex-servicemen and security personnel, promoting camaraderie, mutual respect and the enduring spirit of service.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles organised a Tiranga Rally at Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district to mark the occasion.
The rally witnessed the participation of 37 students along with 26 Assam Rifles personnel, who marched carrying the National Flag while raising patriotic slogans to reaffirm national unity and pay homage to the heroes of the 1999 Kargil War.
Officials said the programmes reflected Assam Rifles' continued commitment to honouring the sacrifices of the nation's brave soldiers, supporting veterans and their families, and inspiring the younger generation to contribute to nation-building through service, discipline and patriotism.
The occasion marks the glorious victory in 1999 when Indian soldiers, braving snow-clad mountainous peaks and relentless firing by Pakistani troops, reclaimed the heights of Kargil.
Operation Vijay was the name given to India's limited war after the neighbouring country's infiltration.
