Power generation in the Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS), came down by 50 per cent today as employees went on strike, Chief Engineer of the NTTPS, J Sammayya said. '

The strike also affected feeding of coal to the units in the NTTPS, one of the biggest thermal power stations in the country.

The total generation capacity of NTTPS is 1700 MW. Electricity employees in Andhra Pradesh went on strike today demanding wage revision. All workers from APGenco, AP Transco and power Distribution Companies, were participating in the strike, he said.

Their wage revision was due from April 1. The unions demanded 27.5 per cent hike in their wages. The disruption in power generation at NTTPS might lead to fluctuations in power supply causing interruptions if the strike continues, an engineer in the distribution company, said.
