Skipper Virat Kohli stood as a lone crusader scoring a valiant 73 to help Royal Challengers Bangalore reach a respectable 154 for 6 against Chennai Super Kings in the last IPL-7 league tie played at M Chinnaswamy stadium here today.

Playing for pride with its chance to reach play-off gone, RCB were never in hunt and its new batting wilted under CSK attack that took advantage of a slow wicket.

The men-in-green dropped opener Chris Gayle, who played through a back injury in the tournament with little success, for the inconsequential tie.

Batting was difficult on the sticky wicket and even part-time bowlers like Suresh Raina (4-0-27-0) were difficult to face. Mohit Sharma found some swing in the air and returned with a tidy 3-0-16-1.

Down 33/3 in the sixth over, Kohli arrived and tried to resurrect the innings with a lone hand. His aggressive intent was, however not backed enough by other batsmen - Yuvraj Singh 24-ball 25, A B de Villers (10) failed with the bat.

There were no other prominent batsmen among the Indians in the team and Kohli was left to fight all alone.

The Delhi batsmen was however the toast of the RCB innings hitting through tight spells of senior seamer Ashish Nehra (3/33) and Ravichandran Ashwin 1/33 to take the score past 150.

Kohli and Yuvraj Singh added 55 runs in 50 balls for the fourth wicket to resurrect the RCB innings.

The RCB captain was the more agressive of the two as he lofted Ravindra Jadeja and Samuel Badree for sixes in the mid-wicket area, even as Yuvraj opened out hitting two boundaries in Ashwin's fourth over, the 17th of the innings.

AB de Villers coming in made some progress with Kohli as the two batsmen added a face saving 42 runs off 22 balls for the sixth wicket. But this was not enough for a challenging score.

Earlier, RCB began badly losing Rilee Russouw in the opening over bowled by Ashish Nehra and the over fetched just two.

West Indian leg-spinner Badree shared the new ball as Takwale hit a four of the last ball to raise RCB to 6/1 after two overs.

India U-19 captain Vijay Zol (13) came in at the loss of Russouw and after playing Nehra for a few balls, showed his intentions sending Nehra for a huge six over the long off boundary.

Takwale also showed out briefly punishing Badree with three fours in the fourth over of the match. A fine sweep and again sending the ball behind the square and later hitting the vacant mid-wicket as RCB progressed to 28/3 after four.

Ashwin introduced in the fifth over, however, put skids on RCB and also dismissed Takwale trapping the right-hander leg before for 19 and RCB were 31/2.
