Three youths were killed and two, including the son of popular Tamil character actor Nasser, were critically injured when the car in which they were travelling collided with a tanker lorry at Manamai village near the tourist spot of Mamallpuram on the East Coast Road today.


According to police, five persons were travelling in a car from Puducherry to Chennai when a tanker lorry carrying acid, meant for industrial purposes, proceeding in the opposite direction, collided with the car.

While three people were killed on the spot, two others, who sustained grievous injuries, were first rushed to Chengalpattu Government Hospital, from where they were shifted to a private hospital in Chennai City.

The injured were identified as Faizal (27) and his friend Vijayakumar (27). Faizal was the son of noted Tamil actor Nasser. The identity of the deceased was being ascertained. The lorry driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

The impact of the collision was such that the car was reduced to a mangled heap.

The rescue personnel had a tough tome in extricating the bodies. Cranes and welding equipments were used for the purpose.

Traffic on the ECR was affected for some time following the mishap.
