Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today admitted that 'good work' of his government could not be conveyed to the people leading to the party's defeat in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Talking to media after the Cabinet meeting here, Mr Yadav said demanding resignation of his government was not ethical as the case of UP is different compared to other states.

"Though we have won less seats our vote share has not dropped so much," he claimed.

He said still the state government's scheme of distribution of laptops, unemployment allowances, 'kanya vidyadhan' and others have been appreciated by all.

"We could not reach out to the people with our achievements, which was the main reason for our defeat. We accept the peoples' mandate and will try to rectify ourselves and learn a lesson from it," he claimed.

Mr Yadav said now it has to be seen how the new BJP government at the Centre works." will all the rivers be cleaned along with the Ganga," he questioned.

Earlier during his cabinet meeting, the ministers authorised the CM to fix the date of the budget session of the UP legislature.

In the cabinet decisions, the government decided to raise the daily wage of scavengers on contract basis under Nagar Nigam, Nagar Palika and Nagar panchayat to Rs 250 a day.
