The Virbhadra Singh government in Himachal Pradesh has appointed one chairman and three vice-chairmen of corporations and boards to strengthen its hold in the state.

Sources in the government yesterday said four-time former Congress MLA Harshwardhan Chauhan from Shellai of Sirmaur district has been made chairman of the state-level Committee on Employment Generation and Resource Mobilisation with the rank of a Cabinet minister.

Rajinder Rana, who had lost recent Lok Sabha election by a margin of 98,000 votes against BJP canidate Anurag Thakur for Hamirpur parlimentary segement is appointed as vice-chairman of Disaster Mangement Board.

Mr Vijay Singh Mankotia, considered rival of Mr Singh camp congress is appointed as vice-chairman of Tourism Development Council.

Mr Ramesh Chauhan of Solan district has been made vice-chairman of the State Khadi and Gram Udayog Board.

BJP state president Satpal Singh Sati has condemned the appointments made by Mr Singh, terming that it would further burden the bankrupt state exchequer.

He said it was a disgrace to offer senior leader like Mr Makotia a low profile position.
