Stalin withdraws resignation offer : Duraimurugan
A couple of hours after offering to resign from the post of DMK Treasurer, M K Stalin, younger son of DMK President M Karunanidhi, beat a hasty retreat, deciding not to press for its acceptance by the Party High Command.
Talking to reporters after meeting Stalin at his residence, senior DMK leader and Deputy General Secretary Duraimurugan said Mr Karunanidhi has decided not to accept his resignation, owning moral responsibility for the party's debacle in the just concluded Lok Sabha Polls.
After Mr Stalin put in his papers, senior DMK leaders went into a huddle and decided not to accept it.
"Mr Stalin has submitted his resignation letter to Mr Karunanidhi. He (DMK Chief) did not accept it", Mr Duraimurugan said, outside Mr Stalin's residence.
"Mr Karunanidhi's decision was conveyed to Mr Stalin and he decided not to press for its acceptance", Mr Duraimurugan said.
Earlier, in the day, Mr Stalin, tipped to be the heir apparent to Mr Karunanidhi, offered to quit from the post of Party Treasurer owning moral responsibility for the DMK's debacle in the Lok Sabha polls.
The DMK, which contested 34 seats with VCK and Puthiya Tamizhagam as its main allies, suffered a severe drubbing at the hustings as it was not able to win even a single seat in the Lok Sabha elections.
