Alleged manhandling by cops: SHO among 3 suspended, Jammu lawyers call of strike.
Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered the suspension of three cops, including the Station House Officer, for allegedly manhandling an advocate in full public view.
In an order issued here late last night, Jammu and Kashmir Home Department suspended SHO Gandhi Nagar Police Station Arun Jamwal, ASI Pritam Chand Saini and a Selection Grade Constable Vikram Choudhary with immediate effect, an official here today said.
He said the suspended cops have been attached with the District Police Lines Jammu till further orders.
However, the lawyers agitating for the past more than two-week have called off their strike.
They were demanding suspension of the cops for allegedly manhandling their colleague namely Harshvardhan on April 16 in full public view in Nanak Nagar area and also for keeping him in police custody from where he was later bailed out.
The lawyers had also called for Jammu Bandh on May 5 and gave 72-hour ultimatum to the government following which a three-member committee was constituted.
The government representatives comprising Commissioner Planning B R Sharma, Secretary Home Suresh Sharma and Law Secretary Mohammad Ashraf yesterday held a detailed meeting with the members of the Bar Association of Jammu (BAJ) in which an order regarding suspension of the cops was issued.
"We have received the copy in written regarding suspension of the SHO and two others," M K Bhardwaj president BAJ told UNI.
Mr Bhardwaj said in General House meeting it was decided that the agitation would be called off.
