All India Congress Committee (AICC) SC Cell Chairman K Raju tonight said supporting either Telugu Desam or YSR Congress in the May 7 election, would mean that the vote is for BJP.

Addressing a media conference here, he said the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) or YSR Congress would ultimately support the communal BJP, while Congress was the only secular party and it has also done a lot for the SCs, STs, Muslims and other minorities and hence, the party should be supported. Congress also provided reservation for Muslims, he added.

Mr Raju Said Congress could manage to get a lot of benefits for Andhra Pradesh from the Centre in the bifurcation process, he claimed.

Several SC sections extended support to the party and more number of seats have been allotted to SCs this time compared to last time, he claimed.

The former senior IAS officer, who was also Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation here in the past, said Visakhapatnam would get more importance after the process of bifurcation was completed and it would be a crucial city in the state.

'Hence, it is important for the people to elect a local candidate as their MP, who has a lot of understanding about the city and its needs and can fight well to secure all it needs."

Mr Raju said this while urging people to elect party candidate Bolisetty Satyanarayana (Satya).

Mr Satya said India has emerged as a major economic force in the world and it was essential that Congress continues in power to sustain the country's growth.
