J-K: SDRF rescues person after sand-extraction boat swept away in Chenab River
Doda, August 25
A sand-extraction boat was swept downstream by a strong current in the Chenab River after its rope snapped, with one person on board rescued by a State Disaster Response Force team, officials said on Monday.
The incident took place near Pul-Doda in the early hours of Monday. The boat drifted downstream, and the person on board was later found stranded in the Chenab River between Malwas and Khileni.
Ghulam Nabi, in-charge of the SDRF water rescue team in Doda, said the team received information about the incident in the early hours.
"We received information in the early morning that a sand-extraction boat had been swept downstream by the strong current near Pul-Doda. A person was on board," he said.
"Upon arrival, we spotted the individual stranded in the Chenab River between Malwas and Khileni. We first rescued the person and then brought the boat to the bank," Nabi added.
He said the rescue operation was challenging due to the difficult location where the boat had drifted.
"The rescue operation was quite challenging because it was difficult to extract the boat from the spot where it had drifted," he said.
