Rahul slams Modi for making hollow promises
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today slammed BJP and its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for making hollow promises of dealing with terrorism with a heavy hand and claimed that thousands of people had lost their lives to terror attacks during the NDA regime.
Over 22,000 people had fallen victims to numerous terror attacks that were rampant in the BJP-led NDA governments regime including the Kandhar plane hijack and several bomb blasts, Mr Gandhi said while addressing an election rally here in favour of Harak Singh Rawat, the Congress candidate from Paurie Garhwal Parliamentary seat.
In comparison, about 800 people had died in terror related attacks in the last five years of UPA government, Mr Gandhi said.
During his address, Mr Gandhi stressed that the Congress led UPA regime had focussed on providing employment, shelter and food to the needy and had brought 15 crore people above the poverty line.
Unlike the BJP, the Congress promoted unity and harmony to ensure all-round progress, specially of the neglected sections. Mr Gandhi also praised the state government for making good use of the Central assistance for reconstruction and rehabilitation in disaster-affected districts and expressed confidence that state government s untiring efforts would ensure safe and smooth conduct of the Char Dham Yatra that commence early next month.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Harish Rawat said both Rajiv Gandhi and Harak Singh Rawat were young leaders and the public should vote them to power for better future of the nation and the state.
