Meghalaya IAS officer attacked
Meghalaya's South Garo hills Deputy Commissioner Chinmay P Gotmare vehicle made a providential escape when unidentified militants attacked his official vehicle in which he was travelling, a police official said today.
Mr Gotmare was attacked by unidentified militants at Sibbari when he was returning to Baghmara from Tura on Thursday night. However, the district magistrate escaped unhurt but his Personal Security Officer (PSO) Amirul Mulla Islam and driver Rith sustained bullet injuries.
Mr Gotmare were returning to Baghmara, the district headquarters of South Garo Hills from Tura after attending a workshop on sanitation organised under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan Scheme.
This is not the first time that Gotmare had been attacked. On January 18 he had a providential escape after suspected GNLA militants' fired at his vehicle between the villages of Jaksongram and Adugre, about 15 km away from Baghmara.
All the government officials, including the deputy commissioners of the five Garo hills district, have been advised earlier to refrain from travelling during night and keep their movement a little quiet.
Meanwhile, police have begun their investigation to identify the attackers and at the sametime launched combing operations in the area.
