District Election Officer and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commissioner Mr Somesh Kumar today said 15 crore new voters were on the rolls to exercise their franchise in the Lok Sabha polls in this time.

In all, 85 crore of people will participate in the general elections 2014 where 1.5 crore people will be working for the conduct of general elections 2014, Mr Somesh Kumar told reporters here.

Earlier, the District Election Officer along with the Special Commissioner, GHMC District Collector and Returning Officer, Hyderabad Parliamentary Constituency and Joint Collector, Returning Officer, Secunderabad held training classes to the Presiding and Assistant Presiding officers at the corporation.

The DEO further stated that every election officer has been deputed for election must feel proud of the Country and as well as they got honour to work in the general elections 2014.

In this context, he has directed all the Returning Officers and the entire Election staff who have been deputed to work for general election 2014 must take this as a challenge and to perform their duties effectively while feeling the responsibility to work to have a free and fair election.

The District Election Officer said the first round of training classes to POs and APOs have already been taken up in which nearly 8000 POs and APOs attended and they have been imparted the procedures to be adopted while performing their election duties.

The next training classes will be held at their respective Returning Officers, he said there is an urgent need to have a hand book with clear instructions to follow the directions of the Election Commission of India and directed the officers concerned to prepare it immediately.
