Conflict between 'love and caste tangle' cost two young lives as a love-smitten pair allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide fearing resistance from their families at Kumarapatti Village in this Southern district, today.

Police said P Murthy (25) and A Saranya (18), a school dropout, were found dead near an Irrigation Tank in the village.

Two beer bottles and a pesticide bottle were recovered at the spot.

It was suspected that the couple took the extreme step due to stiff resistance from their families to their affair as they belonged to different castes.

The bodies were removed to government hospital for post-mortem.
