Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has sent a letter to the Election Commission (EC) expressing his concern over the transfer of certain government officials sans following the established convention in this regard.

In his letter to Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath, Mr Chouhan said the EC's directives to transfer certain officials was complied and necessary orders issued in this regard.

However, he pointed out that the EC used to seek a panel of names from the state government for the transfer of a particular officer and then select a name from the panel.

Mr Chouhan said the district collectors, who were affected by the order, carried out their responsibility in the recently-concluded Assembly elections effectively and earned appreciation from the EC.

He enclosed the certificates provided to these officials along with his letter.

The Chief Minister said the officers were being removed without providing them an opportunity of being heard and sans giving any reason. He asserted that all these officers are known for their integrity and public commitment. Sudden transfers could lead to demoralisation of poll-bound machinery.
