KPCC president G Parameshwar today expressed regret over the comment he made against Janata Dal(S) president H D Deve Gowda that had created a major political controversy.

The JD(S) had condemned the remarks made by Dr Parameshwar during a public speech referring to a comment made by Mr Gowda several years ago that he would consume poison if his party lost in the election.

Speaking to reporters after releasing the Kannada version of the Congress election manifesto for the coming Lok Sabha election, the KPCC Chief said he had not made any harsh comment but just repeated what Mr Gowda had said during earlier elections.

'My comments were blown out of proportion and created misunderstanding in social circle. I did not use any unparliamentary word.

'But I regret that I had made reference. I am proud of Mr Gowda who became the first Prime Minister from Karnataka. I wish him 100 years of happy life. Sometimes sarcastic words come out of mouth and I too have been tired due to electioneering in hot summer,' Dr Parameshwar said.
