Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC), the 3D animation and VFX institute, has joined hands with Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath (CKP) to present ‘Chitralekhan 2014’ - a painting and sketching competition for animation students.

Fully supported by CKP, the event aimed at fostering young artists by providing them a platform to exhibit their skills.

More than 300 entries in painting and sketching categories was received for exhibition. Winners in both categories received a cash prize of Rs. 5000 each.

Renowned writer and author of five best sellers Preeti Shenoy presided the event as the chief guest and handed the awards to winners.

This is the first time MAAC Bangalore organized Chitralekhan in partnership with CKP. CKP, which is considered to be an art behemoth and known to churn out the best artist from India, usually displays only professional artwork, has decided to break away from the tradition by allowing exhibition of artworks by amateur artists as well.

The joint endeavour of CKP and MAAC offered animation students access to opportunities to showcase their skills and cultivate it further to create best artworks.

Shajan Samuel, Sr. Vice-President, MAAC (India) said, “Sketching and painting are baseline requirements to build a career in the animation. We realize the need to provide students with skills in painting and sketching a platform like Chitralekhan to nurture their talent. We are hopeful that students will benefit out of this event.”
