BJP will win a clear majority on its own strength: Rajnath Singh
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Rajnath Singh said that the party was prepared for the upcoming elections and aims to win a clear majority on its own strength', as the world's largest democracy goes to polls after the Election Commission announced the dates, dubbed as the largest elections to be held in nine phases.
Political leaders from India's ruling Congress party and Janata Dal (United) forged alliance with the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Friday.
A leader of India's regional (JD-U), Sushil Kumar, met BJP Chief, Rajnath Singh in New Delhi to join hands with the latter.
Speaking to mediapersons, Rajnath Singh said political parties were joining forces with the BJP due to its mass appeal and the promise to give stable and corruption-free government.
"It's very natural that more and more people are joining BJP, as everybody can see the inclination of the masses toward the party. And this inclination towards BJP is growing with time. I am very confident that the BJP will attain clear majority in the next general elections', said Singh.
Meanwhile, two leaders of Congress party joined the regional Siromani Akal Dal (SAD), an ally of BJP and part of NDA, in Chandigarh.
Former politician, Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu, and former Congress leader, Malkit Singh Birmi announced the merger at a press conference in presence of Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal.
The decision of the two has come as setback to the Congress party, as poll analysts predict that the party is very likely to lose the upcoming general elections in two months.
Sidhu said that joining the Akali Dal was like a homecoming for him and expressed his gratitude towards former Punjab Chief Minister and senior leader of SAD, Parkash Singh Badal.
"It's like a homecoming for me, because I had started my political career as a member of the Akali Dal. I have taken a full circle to come back to my house. I go a long back with this party, and join it today with the blessings of Parkash Singh Badal", said Sidhu.
Sidhu had earlier represented the Congress Party from Talwandi Sabo constituency in Punjab province. He has since resigned from the Assembly to join SAD.
