Himanta Sarma extends greetings to senior citizens, reaffirms Assam govt's commitment to welfare

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday extended his heartfelt greetings to senior citizens on the occasion of Senior Citizens Day, acknowledging their wisdom, sacrifices and contribution to society.
In a post on X, CM Sarma said the wisdom and sacrifices of elders have played a significant role in shaping society, while reaffirming his government's commitment to ensuring that senior citizens are able to live with dignity, care and respect.
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of supporting elderly people and recognising the responsibilities of families towards ageing parents.
CM Sarma said the government would continue to pursue meaningful initiatives aimed at strengthening the support available to senior citizens and ensuring their well-being.
He also referred to the provision of special leave for government employees to enable them to look after their ageing parents. The initiative seeks to provide employees with an opportunity to spend time with and care for their elderly parents while continuing to discharge their professional responsibilities.
The Chief Minister's message underlined the importance of creating a society where senior citizens are valued not only for their past contributions but also for the experience, knowledge and guidance they continue to offer to younger generations.
He said the government remained committed to strengthening support systems for senior citizens and ensuring that their needs receive due attention.
The welfare of senior citizens has increasingly become an important aspect of public policy, particularly as families and social structures evolve. Initiatives that facilitate greater family involvement in the care of elderly parents can also help reinforce inter-generational bonds.
