Last chance to enrol in voters list
The Election Commission has given a chance to those whose names do not figure in the voters list to get themselves enrolled March 9 (Sunday), an officer said Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi, also the Returning Officer for Gurgaon parliamentary constituency, Wednesday said all Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will remain at the polling booths on the above-mentioned date.
The BLOs will have voter list with them, from where anyone can check if his or name name figures in the list. If it is missing, that person can fill up Form Number 6 on the spot and hand it over to the BLO.
Vidyarthi was addressing a press conference in his office.
He said the model code of conduct had come into force following the announcement of poll dates by the Election Commission.
Now, no political party or candidate can hold a rally or public meeting without prior permission of the Returning Officer. As per schedule, polling in Haryana is to take place April 10.
He said nine assembly segments fall in Gurgaon constituency, of which four are in Gurgaon district, three in Mewat district and two in Rewari district. There are a total of 18 lakh voters.
As many as 13,324 voters are Army personnel and of them, 47 have given the right to cast proxy vote on their behalf to a family member or friend.
These voters are from Bawal and Rewari assembly segments and about 950 polling stations have been made for them.
He said for the convenience of voters in Gurgaon district, a toll-free helpline would be started soon. Till then, anyone could seek election-related information from the District Election Office located on the ground floor of the Mini Secretariat.
According to Vidyarthi, the constituency would be divided into sectors and a duty magistrate with police force deployed in each sector.
Three flying squads would be deployed in each assembly segment and would be accompanied by a videographer.
The Gurgaon Police has appointed joint commissioner of police Bharti Arora as the nodal officer for looking into security measures during the elections.
